FINANCIAL CONTROLLER

  • Diamond & Co • Competitive • Office Based - Glasgow

ROLE OVERVIEW

You will take ownership of the financial control environment across four operating companies within Diamond & Co’s Property Services division, based across Glasgow and Cumbernauld. Reporting to the CFO Property Services, you will lead a hands-on controllership remit covering month-end close, management reporting, intercompany integrity, audit readiness, tax compliance and internal controls. This is a role for someone who is comfortable being close to the detail, setting clear standards and making sure the numbers stand up to scrutiny.

Working with an offshore finance team alongside local finance staff in Cumbernauld, you will bring consistency, discipline and pace to the close process across multiple entities. You will review reconciliations, accruals, journals and reporting outputs, while developing a strong control culture and driving improvements in accuracy, timeliness and accountability. You will also act as a trusted finance partner to managing directors and senior leaders across the four businesses, helping them understand performance, challenge assumptions and support better commercial decisions.

Alongside core controllership, you will lead statutory and group audit activity, oversee tax and regulatory compliance, support consolidation and group reporting, and represent Property Services in a UK-wide ERP implementation. You will be expected to balance technical strength with strong people leadership, building an effective relationship with the offshore team and creating a joined-up finance function that delivers reliable outputs with minimal rework.

ROLE EXPECTATIONS

Most days, you will be reviewing numbers, resolving issues before they become problems and keeping the close process moving across all four entities. You will spend time challenging reconciliations, investigating variances, coordinating with the offshore team, supporting senior stakeholders and making sure controls, compliance and reporting standards are consistently met.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

  • You deliver a reliable, repeatable month-end close across all four entities, with deadlines met consistently and reporting produced to a high standard.
  • You keep intercompany balances accurate, matched and cleared each month, with issues resolved before they affect the close.
  • You lead clean, well-prepared audits with strong supporting documentation and no significant control findings.
  • You ensure tax, statutory and regulatory requirements are completed accurately and on time, with no penalties or last-minute fire drills.
  • You build a high-performing offshore team with clear SLAs, strong accountability and low levels of rework.
  • You become a trusted finance lead to business leaders, providing clear insight, practical challenge and dependable support on commercial decisions.

HOW YOU'LL SPEND MOST OF YOUR TIME

  • Owning the month-end close timetable across four entities and driving timely completion of journals, reconciliations, reviews and reporting.
  • Reviewing balance sheet reconciliations, accruals, prepayments, deferred income and other key accounting entries prepared by the offshore team.
  • Preparing and reviewing monthly management accounts, variance analysis and commentary for business and group stakeholders.
  • Managing intercompany accounting, recharges, settlements and related documentation to maintain accuracy across the group structure.
  • Leading audit preparation, responding to auditor queries and coordinating tax, statutory filing and regulatory compliance activity.
  • Partnering with managing directors and senior teams on performance, pricing, contract reviews, cost control and process improvement initiatives.

WHO THIS ROLE IS FOR

  • You are a senior finance professional who enjoys taking ownership of the control environment and setting high standards across multiple entities.
  • You combine technical rigour with a practical mindset and know how to turn complex financial detail into clear, useful insight.
  • You are confident leading remote or offshore teams, creating accountability while building strong working relationships across locations and cultures.
  • You stay calm under pressure, organise your priorities well and bring structure to fast-moving close cycles and competing deadlines.
  • You are collaborative but willing to challenge, and you are comfortable asking the right questions when the numbers do not look right.

EXPERIENCE THAT HELPS

  • Experience in a multi-entity controllership or senior finance role, particularly within a service-led or operationally complex business.
  • Exposure to property management, facilities, construction or related sectors where contract performance, recharges and operational delivery matter.
  • Familiarity with intercompany accounting, group reporting and supporting consolidation in a growing or acquisitive environment.
  • Experience leading audits, coordinating with external advisers and managing tax and statutory compliance across more than one entity.
  • Involvement in ERP implementations, finance process improvement, automation or the integration of new businesses and systems.

WHAT WE OFFER

  • Competitive salary
  • Discretionary bonus
  • 25 days holiday plus bank holidays
  • Westfield Health Cash Plan (Level 2)
  • Cycle to Work scheme
  • Fully funded training and professional development
  • Employee referral scheme, up to £1,500
  • My Gym discount and Reservist Leave
