SENIOR BUILDING SURVEYOR

  • SRVO • £Competitive, aligned to experience • Hybrid - Manchester / Liverpool / Yorkshire

ROLE OVERVIEW

We are looking for a Senior Building Surveyor to join SRVO as part of a growing and highly capable surveying team, delivering core building surveying, project and compliance services across the North of England.

This role is suited to an MRICS-qualified Surveyor (or equivalent level of experience) who enjoys variety, takes pride in technical quality, and is confident managing client instructions across both residential and commercial assets.

This is a senior role for a surveyor who wants autonomy, technically credible work and project exposure, without being stuck in a volume-driven consultancy model.

You’ll work across a varied portfolio including residential, commercial, retail, industrial and education environments, giving you genuine breadth and technical challenge rather than repetitive site types.

Beyond delivery, this role offers clear progression opportunities into Associate-level responsibility, technical leadership and wider client advisory work as SRVO continues to grow.

ROLE EXPECTATIONS

You’ll work under the direction of the Building Surveying Directors, with the freedom to run your own workload, lead projects and manage key client relationships.

The work is technically broad and includes defects, planned maintenance, project delivery, compliance-led work and advisory services. You’ll be trusted to deliver high-quality outputs, manage deadlines and contribute to consistent service standards across the team.

You’ll also support the wider growth of the business through mentoring junior surveyors and APC candidates, supporting CPD and contributing to service improvement and business development where appropriate.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

You’ll be successful in this role if:

  • You deliver technically robust work with high attention to detail
  • You build trusted client relationships and manage instructions confidently
  • You manage your own workload effectively and meet reporting deadlines
  • You lead projects professionally and handle complexity calmly
  • You contribute to team development through mentoring and knowledge sharing

HOW YOU’LL SPEND MOST OF YOUR TIME

Most weeks, you’ll be:

  • Providing advice on building defects across a wide range of property types and ages
  • Preparing Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) reports, budget costings and planned maintenance advice
  • Reviewing pre-construction information and overseeing RAMS review processes
  • Acting as Project Manager / Contract Administrator on projects typically ranging from £50k to £3m+
  • Acting as Principal Designer where appropriate, including PCI packs, CPP review and H&S file preparation
  • Undertaking Building Reinstatement Cost Assessments
  • Completing pre-acquisition surveys across commercial, retail, industrial and residential premises
  • Completing building height surveys and structural appraisals for Building Safety Reports linked to the Building Safety Act 2022
  • Preparing Schedules of Dilapidations, negotiating claims and advising landlords and tenants
  • Providing Party Wall advice (desirable but not essential)
  • Monitoring development or project works on behalf of landlords, funders or other parties
  • Supporting wider company initiatives including business development, CPD, training and mentoring of junior surveyors and APC candidates

WHO THIS ROLE IS FOR

This role suits someone who:

  • Is MRICS qualified with a minimum of 2+ years PQE
  • Holds a RICS-accredited Building Surveying degree (minimum 2:2)
  • Has strong technical knowledge across construction, building pathology and relevant legislation (including fire-related legislation)
  • Is confident writing high-quality reports and communicating professionally with clients and stakeholders
  • Can manage their own workload effectively and prioritise to meet deadlines
  • Is comfortable working in a hybrid way, balancing home working, site visits and collaboration
  • Holds a full, clean UK driving licence

It would be advantageous if you also have:

  • Residential property management sector experience
  • AutoCAD capability
  • Party Wall experience

EXPERIENCE THAT HELPS

  • Strong knowledge of construction technology and building pathology
  • Experience delivering projects as a Contract Administrator / Project Manager
  • Confidence working with multiple stakeholders including clients, property managers and contractors
  • Ability to lead and mentor others, or aspiration to step into leadership responsibilities
  • Strong organisation skills, self-management and attention to detail

WHAT WE OFFER

  • Competitive salary aligned to experience
  • Car allowance
  • Discretionary bonus
  • Hybrid and flexible working
  • 25 days holiday plus bank holidays
  • Private medical insurance, life assurance and enhanced family leave
  • Fully funded training and professional development
  • Pension scheme and employee assistance programme
  • Employee referral scheme
  • Discounts across travel, retail, fitness and entertainment

You’ll be supported with ongoing CPD, technical development and opportunities to step into leadership and mentoring responsibilities.
